about the artist:

From 1892 to 1894, Harlfinger was a student at the private Strehblow painting school in Vienna. He subsequently studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Nikolaus Gysis and Carl von Marr . He initially painted figure paintings such as Walpurgis Morning and Tightrope Walkers , but soon turned to landscape painting . His preferred subjects were Alpine landscapes . He became a member of the Vienna Secession in 1906 and served as its president in 1918 and 1919. From 1917 onwards, he worked at the Vienna Women's Academy . ^[ 1 ]

During the First World War, Harlfinger worked as a war artist in the art group of the Imperial and Royal War Press Headquarters . Some of the works he created there were assigned to the then Imperial and Royal Army Museum (today: Museum of Military History ), in whose art collection the paintings are still located today.
