High quality reprint of an original artwork “Unity of Strength: Aeroplane in hand, with wrist emerging from sea horizon” by Reginald Mount (1906–1979). The UK National Archives catalogue reference is INF 3/328. It dates from the Second World War, between 1939 and 1946.

Mount produced the design as part of a “Unity of Strength” series associated with British wartime information. Sources describing Mount’s work explain that this particular design was probably intended for distribution in the Soviet Union after 1941. The hand represents the British merchant navy carrying a Hurricane to the USSR, symbolizing British material assistance to the Soviet war effort.

The red hand rises out of the sea, literally supporting the British fighter aircraft.
