High quality reprint of a vintage advertising poster -Hungary 1910.

 

This is a Hungarian advertising poster from 1911, drawn in the Art Nouveau/caricature style of the period.

The Hungarian text at the bottom translates roughly as “You didn’t buy your violin from Reményi.”
Budapest, District VI, Király Street 58 and 60.

Artist: Peter Ratz

 About the artist:

Péter Rátz (Rátz Péter, 1879–1945) was a Hungarian painter and graphic artist associated with the Nagybánya (Baia Mare) artists’ colony, one of the major centres of modern Hungarian painting.

He was born in Császló in 1879 and went to Nagybánya in 1905, where he studied under two important Hungarian painters, István Réti and Károly Ferenczy. He subsequently studied abroad: in Rome in 1906, including at the American Academy, and spent nearly a year in Paris in 1909. Source: Google.
