High quality reprint of a vintage advertising poster - “Exposition d’affiches” (Exhibition of Posters) created in 1896 in Liège, Belgium. It advertises an exhibition organized by the Cercle des Beaux-Arts de Liège (a local fine arts society).
These exhibitions were major cultural events where artists showed paintings, prints, and—importantly at the time—illustrated posters, which were becoming a new art form.
About the artist:
Jean Ubaghs (1852–1937), a Belgian painter and graphic artist from Liège. He was closely involved with the local art scene and exhibited frequently at the same Cercle des Beaux-Arts.
